Sounds like a strange florist who is discouraging their friends from buying flowers on Valentine's day. Certainly a one day flower holiday does place a lot of pressure on the supply chain, but a reputable florist, like a reputable wholesaler, importer, or grower, wouldn't be hoarding at the expense of quallity, woudl they? (we hope!?!) Isn't it the seasons and the celebrations that make life more interesting?
