Flowers and Fillers Discussions

My sales of Lisianthus increase by about 300 % during the seasons where I can offer  an "open cut " option of this gorgeous flower and shrink back to almost nothing when all I have to offer is a " tight cut "  that never seems to really develop that well in water. Is it just me or does this flower need to be cut more open than we often see from many growers?

I agree a open cut lisianthus all year would be nice to have, why can't it be done?

In my opinioin this is an issue of packing.  Open cut Lisianthus needs to either be transported in upright hampers or wrapped and boxed in such a way that the open flowers are protected from damage.  Although people do want open cut they do not want marks on the blooms.  The further the product has to travel the more difficult it is to transport in an open cut stage.  Unfortunately this means for South American producers who ship via air to Miami and then truck to final destination it is very challenging to ship open cut in good condition.  Of course I say challenging and not impossible.  Any lisianthus growers out there with an opinion on this?

I thought those interested in Lisianthus should know that one of finest Lisianthus crops grown anywhere in the world has just started in California.  This stuff has a price quality rating that is off the chart and anyone needing lisianthus has to get their hands on it.  I hear it will be hitting the Canadian market in days.  Eustoma russellianum (by its scientific name) is an awesome cut flower when done right and this crop is done right!
