Edit Florist & Wholesaler Information

Florist & Wholesaler Information

  • Dendrobium Orchids are named for the greek words "Dendros"                ( meaning tree) and "Bios" ( meaning life) due to the fact that they are naturally epiphetic and can grow without soil ( or on trees!)
  • Dendrobiums, like most orchids, should be stored at 15 to 17 degrees celsius for optimal vase life.
  • The vast majority of Dendrobium shipped to the North American market are grown in Thailand but they are also produced in other tropical regions such as Singapore, Hawaii and Costa Rica.
  • White and Green cultivars of Dendrobium are genetically the weakest of Dendro varieties and are subject to poor quality and bud yellowing during the Thai rainy season from May to September. Most dark Purple and Pink cultivars are genetically stronger and rarely show signs of quality problems.

Grading Information

  • Dendrobiums are generally graded by stem length and are largely available in 3 grades.
  • LL ( 65 cm+) , L ( 55 cm +) and M ( 45cm +)
  • Usually shipped sleeved, with water picks and bunched by 10 stems.

Grower and Breeder Information

  • For the long trip to North America...boxes should be shipped to the airport in refrigerated transport to avoid heat stress problems and loss of vase life.
