Edit Florist & Wholesaler Information

Florist & Wholesaler Information

  • This section contains a range of tropical bouquets and combo boxes available from Central and South America.
  •  As with all tropicals these bouquets should not be exposed to temperatures below 15 degrees celsius and regular misting will help to extend vase life.
  • Tropical flowers can be transported on refrigerated route trucks if kept protected in foam insulated boxes or containers.
  • Tropical hydrating mist products such as Hawaiin Floral Mist are often used to help these flowers absorb and retain moisture.
  • Tropical bouquets are available in a wide range of sizes and price points.
  • Bouquet costs are directly related to the type and quantity of the composition. Ginger, Ti Leaves and Palm Leaves being the least expensive ingredients and Heliconia, Musa, Pineapple and Maracas being the most expensive.
  • Fast growing leaves like Ti Leaves and Palms are the least expensive ingredients in tropical bouquets while slower growing Cordyline and Pleomele tips are the most expensive. Weight and volume of bouquets will have a direct impact on transport costs.

Grading Information

  • Tropical or Exotic Bouquets are graded by stem length and flower and foliage contents.( i.e. number of stems per bouquet )
  • Ginger flowers are graded by stem length and bloom size. Good quality tropical bouquets should be made with medium or large sized Ginger blooms.
  • Heliconia are graded by stem length and number of flower bracts.
  • Tropical leaves and foliages are generally graded by stem length and are often available in a variety of different grades or lengths.

Grower and Breeder Information

  • Tropical BQ's being shipped to North America should be packed in insulated boxes during the winter months to avoid freezing at the airport.
  • All blooms and foliage should be free of marks, blemishes and fungus.
  • The most common reasons for quality credits from clients are freezing or fungus related marking.
  • Tropicals should be cooled and dried off before transport in refrigerated trucks to the airport. Rapid  change in temeprature during transport can create condensation and breed botrytis fungus which can damage flowers.
