Roses Discussions

Its amazing to me how the North American Valentines Day market has changed and seems to dominated by a very small number  of popular red varieties ( i.e.Freedom, Forever Young ).
Does anyone see this trend happening in other colors?
Best Pinks? Best Whites?

White Mondial ( lasts forever) , Pink Rosita Vendela ( the color is to die for!) and Yellow Viva are the ones we have on Standing Order at The Lily Pad.

as a industry, we need to de-program the men from only wanting reds at VD, then the women would receive nicer roses

Diversifying your weekly consumption of reds from the standard Freedom and Forever Young would certainly help a florist stand out at Valentines Day. Varieties like Night Fever, Sexy Red, Charlene, Tinto are second choices for most and if they were part of your regular store mix, availability at holiday time would be more easily managed.

As for pink and white.....

Cherry O is a great new pink, Priceless is strong..I am stuck on a good new white. Hopefully the Summer 2011 crops have some gems.

I say skip the red roses all together, us ladies out there would rather have some cool new roses. For a nice bright pink the variety Sanaa or Samba pa ti, or panama for a soft pink. For a great white, I love the high and peach and I agree with Lily below, mondial is really one of my favourites.

I agree with Lily on her choices of rosita vendela (and of course the original cream vendela is also a staple), mondial, and yellow Viva. Other good yellows I like are Tara, Elle, and Deja vu. High and ..... series, all the colors seem to be amazing so far. Great whites and yellows - high and peace, high and pure (both white) high and yellow magic, high and exotic. (both yellow).
We definitely need to promote new pinks. Everyone seems to want sweet unique.
I wonder why people aren't into peach - is this colour still out of fashion? I'm ready for a comeback.
