The Narcissus is a genus of mainly hardy, mostly spring-flowering, herbaceous perennials in the Amaryllis family.  All Narcissus species have a central bell-, bowl-, or disc-shaped corona surrounded by a ring of six floral leaves called the perianth, composed of tepals which is united into a tube at the forward edge of the 3 locular ovary.

Some corona are double-bloomed, some single, some cupped, some have a trumpet structure where the cup is elongated and protrudes in a more tubular fashion.

Most if not all daffodils are beautifully scented making for a unique floral experience.

Another hallmark of Daffodils & Narcissus is that as a cut flower, you cannot place them with other flowers in a vase, but rather, you must keep them isolated. You can indeed plant them with other bulbs in a garden, but not place them with other flowers in a vase. This is because a toxic substance within the stem leaches into the water and poisons the other cut flowers.

Interestingly, Narcissus is said to be at least partially named for the greek legend of Narcissus, who fell in love with his own reflection. The legend is linked to Narcissism, which is defined in psychology by selfishness, involving a sense of entitlement, a lack of empathy, and a need for admiration. The inference that these beauties don't play well with others and need to admired is thus an almost mythical quality.

A vase of Daffodils will release a luxuriously complex and beautiful scent; An experience not to be missed for anyone.

Here is a list of the most scented varieties:
  • Abba
  • Geranium
  • Bridal crown
  • Paperwhite
  • Soleil D'Or Spray
